India to host 2018 Commonwealth Judo Championship

India will be hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Judo Championships in Jaipur, besides organising the Asian Cadet and Asian Junior Judo Championships in September in Kerala this year. 
The Commonwealth Judo Championships was allotted to India, by the Commonwealth Judo Congress held on April 23rd at Port Elizabeth, South Africa. 
"The Commonwealth Judo Championships is the official event of the Commonwealth Judo Associations and being organised in every 2 years for Cadets, Junior, Seniors, Masters and visually impaired Judo Players. 
  • This will be the first time that Commonwealth Judo Championships will be held in India.

The Commonwealth Judo Championship is an international judo competition, open to countries of the Commonwealth of Nations.

The Commonwealth of Nations, or the Commonwealth (formerly the British Commonwealth), is an intergovernmental organisation of 53 member states that were mostly territories of the former British Empire.
Judo :
  • Judo was created as a physical, mental and moral pedagogy in Japan, in 1882, by Kanō Jigorō .
  • It is generally categorized as a modern martial art which later evolved into a combat and Olympic sport. 
  • Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the objective is to either throw or takedown an opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue an opponent with a pin, or force an opponent to submit with a joint lock or a choke.
  •  A judo practitioner is called a judoka.
